  WHO WASHED THIS POT?

MOVEMENT ONE

(Light falls on Chuks and Iyke reading in a hostel . Chuks is lying on a pile of mattresses while Iyke is sitting before a table. Above the table is a small book shelf, beside it are three kerosene stoves and pots. Chuks yawns).

IYKE: Guy, na wa for you oh! A beg no swallow me.

CHUKS: Nna eh, I dey hech die

IYKE: Why you dey tell me, I carry you come this School?

CHUKS:You fit?

IYKE: Why then are you telling me that you are hungry?

CHUKS: I no get time for argument now. I no just wan talk away the remaining strength

                I get.

IYKE:  (A little while later) Chuks, me too dey hech.

CHUKS: Ehe

IYKE: (cudgels his brains) what do you have?

CHUKS: I have only ingredients?

IYKE: (thinking) only ingredients… em…. Do you have tomatoes?

CHUKS: Yes and what do you have?

IYKE: I have rice.

ALL: So why don’t we cook jollof rice.

CHUKS: Who will do the cooking?

IYKE: You have to , since you cook better than I. Here’s my key, collect as much rice as

you need. I’ll be going to the reading room. (Chuks takes Iyke’s key and opens his cupboard. Light fades).

MOVEMENT  TWO

(Light falls on Chuks helping himself to jollof rice from a small pot. Just as he finishes helping himself, Iyke enters with some books)

IYKE: Isn’t the food ready yet?

CHUKS: It is, you are a good timer. (Iyke drops  his books on the table, opens his cupboard, gets a plate and starts helping himself with the food) Guy, no forget wash that pot if you finish.

IYKE: Meaning?

CHUKS: Meaning what you heard

IYKE: So I wey bring the rice, go come wash pot for you?

CHUKS:  No be me wey get the tomato and other ingredients used in preparing the food?

Was it not I who also prepared it?

IYKE: And so?

CHUKS: You should wash the pot after eating.

IYKE: Well, I don’t care. Thank God it’s not my pot. If you don’t want to wash it, leave

if dirty. ( Chuks drops his plate of food and goes to stop Iyke from taking more

             food.)  Chuks mind yourself oh!

CHUKS: You dey craze, how you go talk say you no go wash my pot after eating.

IYKE: I be your servant?

CHUKS: Guy, you no go eat this food if you no go wash the pot.

IYKE: Na lie.

CHUKS: Try am now (They struggle over the pot)

IYKE: I go slap you oh.

CHUKS: You fit?  (Iyke slaps him. They fight. As they fight, three boys enter the room. Two of them go to separate the fight. The third one carries Iykes food and pours it into the pot. He does so with Chuks’. After that, he carries the pot out of the room. The fight  continues. The third boy returns later with the pot washed. He keeps it where he collected it. A little while later, the fight stops. Iyke searches for his food only to find his plate empty. Chuks does same and finds his plate empty. They rush to the pot and find it clean)

IYKE AND CHUKS: who washed this pot?

                                                    CURTAIN CALL.
